It’s time
May 11th, 2005 andrewThe time is now
For a long time we have waited for the improvements that IT was supposed to bring to medicine. Those improvements have been slow in appearing but they are potentially significant. Medical-Objects is about enabling this to happen in the patient care arena. While we have seen complex billing systems appear, true clinically orientated advances have been few and far between, and when they have appeared they are islands, unable to be communicated to anyone else.
Medical-messaging is the bridge that allows communication between providers. What needs to be communicated is often quite complex and transmitting it, without a loss of the richness of the data is a challenge. HL7 (Health Level Seven) is the solution to this challenge. Its an ANSI standard, it has the richness we need, and is operating system and application agnostic. It has been endorsed as the standard for health care messaging in Australia.
To obtain the advances that Healthcare needs we need capable, standards compliant HL7 messaging. To make this work we also need strong privacy safeguards and a common language (ie Terminology). Medical-Objects has been working hard to bring all the required pieces together to make this work, and it is working.
It is in this place that we want to share some stories of how its working and what problems it solves for both patients and providers.
